Reader Question

Dear Deb:

"I will be attending a wedding this summer and would love to hear your opinion on an outfit.  I don't usually want to stand out but I will be seeing some old friends and would like to dress to impress! I have a beautiful designer dress that I would like to get your opinion on. The wedding is at the end of August..."

"Wedding Wow" sent in from The Paris In You Reader.

After another email exchange with this Reader, I found out her age, body type, coloring, the venue and her budget. No matter what your objective, it is most important to dress appropriately for your age and the venue.

Since this 33 year old PIY reader will be attending a conventional summer wedding in the city, most cocktail dresses could work. In my opinion, this puts her dress option on the 'no' list. This black dress is simply too heavy for the summer season, and because of it's silver detailing, it has more of a 'winter holidays' feel.

TIP: Your best/go-to dress will not work for every occasion. It will depend largely on the material as well as cut of the dress/suit. Stick to lighter fabrics and shades during the warmer months, and heavier fabrics for during the cooler months.

GO BOLD OR GO HOME
First, in order to get noticed in a sea of people dressed up for a formal event, go for a bold color and/or large prints. Search for these colors in a cocktail style dress. These are ideal for weddings and can easily be recycled for another special night out. Stay away from shinier fabrics like satin that may make you look like you're going to the prom or are a part of the bridal party.

This one-shoulder chiffon dress in a bold salmon color will most definitely stand out amongst a crowd. [Note: If your skin tone is on the lighter side and you have pink hues, orange is not be your best color option.]  I chose this dress because it is the perfect weight for a summer event, the perfect color to stand out at the wedding, and because of it's classic cut and flirty lines.  Pair it with nude sandals (a classic heel is ideal) and minimal accessories.

Thank you for sending in your questions and I look forward to reading more of them.  Keep them coming!
